Medical and long-term care are covered by the Caisse des Français de l'Étranger (CFE), whose mission is to insure French expatriates as well as EU, EEA and Swiss nationals, whatever they are :
- their family and professional situation during the expatriation
- their country of residence
- their age
- their state of health
Membership is done without a prior medical questionnaire.
Upon their return to their country of origin, members immediately return to their social protection system without disruption of rights.
Like all Social Security funds, the CFE is a private body responsible for a Public Service.
Financially autonomous, it is governed by the Social Security Code and under the supervision of two ministries: the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of the Budget.
